Alec Paul here,In the fall of taking the Intro to Engineering Design course, I was a senior at South Western High School. I participate in my school heavily, with sports such as Tennis, Track and Field, and Football. I am a member in the South Western Link Crew, National Honor Society, Debate Club, National Art Honor Society, and I am the Vice Presidents of the South Western Key Club and Technology Student Association.
As it is probably obvious, my favorite subjects are Engineering, Complex Maths, Computer Science, and all of the Physical Sciences. I am also very invested in shop classes and completing personal projects. I have attended the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Foundation Seminar, Rotary Youth Leadership Foundation Seminar, Alfred University Astronomy Camp, Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences, and the TSA national conference. I plan on continuing my education by studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at a technical school or university outside of Pennsylvania. My school of study has not yet been determined. |
PLTW Engineering
Project Lead The Way is the provider for the Intro to Engineering Design curriculum. It provides the resources necessary for instructors to teach students proper engineering techniques. Project Lead the Way also offers many other engineering courses, such as Principles of Engineering Design and Civil Engineering and Architecture, with the opportunity to earn college credit.

"From launching space explorations to delivering safe, clean water to communities, engineers find solutions to pressing problems and turn their ideas into reality. PLTW Engineering empowers students to step into the role of an engineer, adopt a problem-solving mindset, and make the leap from dreamers to doers. The program’ s courses engage students in compelling, real-world challenges that help them become better collaborators and thinkers. Students take from the courses in-demand knowledge and skills they will use in high school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take."

Course Description
The Introduction to Engineering Design course is designed to introduce the basic concepts of the engineering design process and other common engineering practices to anyone who takes it. It introduces subjects such as 3D modeling, technical sketching, team efficiency, and many other small subjects. The goal is, in reality, a collection of miniature classes designed to give an overview of how engineering should and would be conducted in the real world. Presentations are given by students to give them experience in communicating their engineering to others. The course offers a test by the end of the class that provides students with an opportunity to earn college credit.
The course runs on the following curriculum:
